    Clara

My wife and I saw Clara at FIN the Halifax film fest. The very young Canadian director was in attendance. It is largely a 2 person film with the two characters debating religion vs. scientific reason. Both have secrets that form their particular point of view. There are a few standout moments of wonder in the film. An interesting thoughtful movie and one I'm hoping to see again.

    Venom

I guess this just wasn't my genre. For the type of movie it was, it was well done, though I admit to almost wanting to leave before the end. Tom Hardy played the part well. Not nuts about Michelle Williams.

    A Star is Born

Great performances by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. An inspiring success story but even with success comes it's associated demons born from childhood trauma and substance abuse. It definitely made me want to root for Bradley Cooper's character and their love story even though it was a little predictable as to where it was going to lead. I think that both leads gave an Oscar worthy performance. It showed me a side of Lady Gaga that made me appreciate her talents much more.

Bad Times at the El Royale

Monday, October 15, 2018 2:20:18 AM | (Age Not Specified)

This is a movie for the literate: It moves along slowly--with great plot development. The movie takes place in a past (and an even further past). Much of the fun of the movie is trying to place what action is happening when. If you are a young person (under 55) you may enjoy the action while not understanding the many references called up by the music, the videos. For me, it was great in capturing a major facet of the 1960's--including Vietnam; the acts of the Manson family, the FBI, and, of course the violence and rage. I was there; and, I remember.

Gosnell: The Trial Of America's Biggest Serial Killer

Monday, October 15, 2018 1:33:37 AM | (Age Not Specified)

I couldn't stop shaking after watching this movie. Even though I knew the outcome, it was gripping. Everyone should see this true movie. If you don't believe it, read the transcripts of the trial. The horrible thing is, this kind of thing is still happening, even in my own city.

    Revenge

Well, I won't get those 2 hours back. Firstly a mostly French spoken movie with English subs. I get the "idea" of the movie, but she would have been dead from the fall, plain and simple. Again, It's a good "idea", but could have been done way better in my opinion. Acting wasn't the greatest, effects weren't the greatest, and like I said, she'd be dead already lol Just because of the scenery alone, I'll rate this a 2. Don't waste your time on this one. It's like most of the Australian movies about cave diving...don't waste your time.

    Skyscraper

Okay, compared to the original, it doesn't hold water (sorry for the pun lol) but really, bringing it up to date, it was really well done. Yes, some things were a bit far fetched but what part of movies aren't nowadays. Take that away, The Rock did a great job as he has done in recent years, and honestly, it was very up to date with technology and such. I really enjoyed it. I give it a solid 4.

Stupid movie. Waste of 2 hrs. A star studded cast doing nothing worthwhile.
